Copito Botanical Crayons
Botanical Crayons by Copito:
These non-toxic crayons are made in the Garraf region of Spain using beeswax, carnauba wax, cocoa butter and natural plant and mineral pigments. They are made in small batches and are carved by hand, one by one, each crayon is unique in its color and shape. They come with a roll-up canvas case and a small card explaining which plants and minerals were used to produce their color.
Care instructions:
The pigments used in the crayons are light sensitive and will change over time. Please store them in a cool and dark place when not using them to help preserve their depth of color. Our botanical crayons do break (as all crayons do!), you can melt them down using a “Bain Marie” and pouring them into a silicone mold.
My process:
I source the beeswax locally from a beekeeper, the carnauba wax is farmed ethically in Brazil as are the pigments I purchase from a EU producer.
Using a Bain Marie, I melt the beeswax and carnauba wax, then add a dash of cocoa butter. Once the wax has been melted down, I add my plant and mineral pigments, testing the color before pouring the mixture into a mold. Once the wax is cold enough (but not too cold!), I carve each crayon, dust it off with a brush, and wrap it in recycled kraft paper.
The cases are made from dead stock fabric which I source locally and are seen by my seamstress and her aunt. All of our packaging materials are recycled and plastic free.
